Ven. Sakya Longyen met Ven. Haiyun in October 2008 during a Dharma talk at Fu Hui Temple. The meeting inspired Longyen aspirations to renounce home life. Since December 9 and until his ordination, he sat on the Board of the Avatamsaka Buddhist Community of British Columbia and helped with its formation and operations. On 8 August 2009, his Guru Ven. Haiyun Jimeng ordained him into the Hsien-shou Buddhist Order in a diksa at Da Huayen Monastery in Taipei where Ven. Longyen met WBSY Secretary General Ven. Anuruddha Mugunuwela Thero and helped the Thero with the preparation of the WBSY 6th General Conference which was due to be held in Yamagata Japan. His efforts had won the trust of the Thero. On 22 October 2009, on the strength of the Secretary General’s high recommendation and the approvals of all four Presidents of WBSY, Ven. Sakya Longyen was appointed President of WBSY Canada.
Sakya Longyen is a practitioner of the Maha Yoga of Lakulish International Fellowship’s Enlightenment Mission. In January 2010, he was silver medallist representing Vancouver Canada in the international team competition in the Second Lakulish World Yogasana Championship held at the Andheri Sports Comlex Mumbai. Thereafter, Sakya Longyen underwent yoga teacher training in Asha Ashram and Rajarajeshwara Ashram in Gujarat India under the LIFE Mission.
Sakya Longyen works diligently in spreading the Buddha Dharma. He devotes much time and efforts in translating Buddhist texts from Chinese to English. He is the translator of his Guru Ven. Haiyen Jimeng’s latest book OUR ONLY CHOICE.
Sakya Longyen is strong proponent of iDharma. He is the author and webmaster of more than ten web sites and blogs in English, Chinese, and Sanskrit. Just text newhuayen. In order to reach out to the Hispanic community, Sakya Longyen has recently teamed up with Mr. Agustin Elizondo of Irún, Spain in the translation of the entire Huayen on Indra's Net web site from English into Spanish.
Venerable Sakya Longyen, Webmaster of Indra’s Net, is a staunch believer of Truth with no definition. He works for holistic harmony by helping people cultivate the ABC of Altruism, Benevolence, Compassion and keep inner peace.
Sakya Longyen was brought up with a strong Christian background and has always been a seeker of Truth in life. He attended Catholic schools from kindergarten to universities and was baptized in 1995. In 1996, he had the chance of hearing the Dharma from Ven. Master Chin Kung, and ever since then, had been studying Pure Land Buddhism. He first received Tisarana in the fall of 1997 and proceeded to study Jodo Shinshu doctrines for three years with the Vancouver Buddhist Church where he was known as Shaku Shodo. He cultivated Pure Land Buddhism until on Vesak Day 2008 when he retook Tisarana with his son at Lingyen Mountain Temple Canada under the late Ven. Bhikkhu Miao Lian.
